New Regimental Secretary

Post by BobH »

We've received the following notice:
A MESSAGE FROM GENERAL SIR ADRIAN BRADSHAW KCB OBE DL
COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT

I am delighted to be able to announce that Maj Steve Penkethman has been selected as the next Regimental Secretary of the King's Royal Hussars, in succession to Lt Col Peter Garbutt, WEF 23 June 2021.

Maj Penkethman is well placed to ensure a seamless transition from his current role as Assistant Regimental Secretary, and I know he will serve us all well.

This is taken from HHQ Newsletter:
On Wednesday this week we said thank you and goodbye to Lt Col Peter Garbutt who has retired as Regimental Secretary after 8 years in post, handing over to Major Steve Penkethman.

On a lovely sunny day in Peninsula Barracks, a group of Regimental trustees gathered, along with staff from HHQ, museum volunteers, and colleagues from the other museums and offices in Peninsula Barracks. The Colonel of the Regiment, General Sir Adrian Bradshaw KCB OBE DL, led the thanks.

'Garbo' commissioned into 14th/20th King's Hussars in 1973, his grandfather having served in 14th Hussars 1915-19 and his father in 14th/20th King's Hussars 1947-79. He retired from the Army in 2009, after 37 years, and was immediately followed in the Regiment by his son, Bertie. Then, as Bertie left the Regiment to become a doctor, Garbo returned as Regimental Secretary in 2013.

Peter Garbutt has been the quintessential Regimental officer and we are extremely grateful for all that he has done for us in his time as Regimental Secretary. We send Garbo and Gail our very best wishes for retirement and look forward to seeing them at reunion functions in the future. Enjoy the golf and fishing.

For the time being, the post of Assistant Regimental Secretary in HHQ will be gapped whilst the Civil Service recruiting machine goes in to action.
We wish Peter the very best of fortune in his retirement.
